Résumé

This book offers a collection of 13 chapters written by 19 international scholars on spoken corpora and variation with different methodological approaches, theoretical stances and analytical treatments of several phenomena in the varieties of contemporary English. These approaches range from descriptive, quantitative, qualitative sociophonetic analyses to formal phonological modeling, from methodological issues on second language acquisition to the re-assessment of the existing models in this field, from statistical observations to sociolinguistic analysis. Thus the reader has access to the many possible interfaces in the analysis of spoken English, such as corpus-based phonology, experimental phonetics, acoustics, interphonology, phonological theory, sociolinguistics, second language acquisition, and the modelling of language variation and change. We therefore hope to provide new data and analyses as a contribution to the multifocal dynamic in contemporary corpus phonology.
