Profil d'un coran miniature confection, réception et usages à Casablanca

The article is focused on a miniature Koran, whose his-tory will be closely retraced, from its creation, distribu-tion in points of sale, placement on the shelves of a bookshop to its sale, use and transport by its owner. Particular attention will be given to the shape of this small Koran – that of a book – and to the materials from which it is made, with the aim of analyzing the effects that the physical appearance of the miniature Koran produces on the interpretations given to the divine Word. Small enough to be held in the palm of the hand, the miniature Korans are, however, quite difficult to read and are generally bought to be car-ried on one’s person, hung on a car rear-view mirror or placed “under one’s pillow”. The analysis pays particu-lar attention to the special events (mounâssabat) for which the miniature Koran is offered as a gift – mar-riages, changes of residence, birthdays, invitations. This leads to an analysis of the role it plays in social relations and their reinforcement.
L’objet placé au cœur de cet article est un coran miniature dont on retracera le parcours: du moment où il est fabriqué, distribué dans les points de vente et placé sur les étagères d’une librairie, jusqu’à être acheté, utilisé et transporté par son propriétaire. Un intérêt particulier est porté à la forme prise par ce petit coran – celle du livre – et aux matériaux à par-tir desquels il est confectionné, dans le but d’étu-dier les effets que l’apparence physique du coran miniature produit sur les usages attachés à la parole divine. Suffisamment petits pour tenir dans le creux de la main, les livres de coran miniatures se prê-tent difficilement à la lecture et sont généralement achetés pour être portés prés de soi, rangés dans sa poche, être accrochés au rétroviseur de sa voi-ture ou bien encore être placés «sous son oreiller». Enfin, l’étude porte attention aux occasions (mou-nâssabat) durant lesquelles le coran miniature est offert en cadeau – mariages, changements de domiciles, anniversaires, invitations. Cela conduira à analyser dans quelle mesure il est inscrit dans des relations sociales et comment son don contribue à les consolider.
