Manufacturing Bone Tools: The Example of Kovačevo

Isabelle Sidéra

Abstract

The spoons made from ox metapodial bones are specific bone objects, emblematic for the early Neolithic in the Balkans and Anatolia. They were finely made, sometimes even decorated, and their manufacture demanded high skill and knowledge. The paper will discuss the manufacturing techniques, with special focus on the data obtained through experimentation.
