Résumé

Objective: this article reviews Internet interventions, i.e. interventions using a computer network to establish therapeutic contact with subjects presenting an addiction problem. Internet has become an essential tool in many fields and is gradually being developed in the field of addiction medicine. Methods: based on a review of the literature using the main international databases, this study presents the benefits and limitations of several types of intervention for patients with an alcohol problem, pathological gambling or cannabis. Results: most of the current programmes consist of self-help techniques, but some include contacts with a healthcare professional. These new methods appear to demonstrate positive effects in certain situations and for certain types of patients. Limitations are also assessed from three angles: clinical, psychopathological, and ethical. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2013 APA, all rights reserved). (journal abstract)
