Numismatic History of Philippi
Abstract
The present study aims to present and synthesize the actual known documentation on the monetary history of Philippi as well as to highlight the mechanisms of the transformation of a coinage from a Greek city state to a Roman colony. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the monetary iconography and the attested modifications made in connection with the political history and cults of this important ancient site.
